Local TeleCare user and ex-nurse Jill Powell, 77, is registered blind and has a frail physique from Childhood polio. As a result, Jill is prone to falls. Although she has a carer who visits once a week to help with household chores, a concern for her is having a fall when no one is around.

Local TeleCare user Ruby Forde-Alexander, 74, had a stroke at home in December 2008. This affected the right side of her brain, which in turn affected her mobility, resulting in her needing additional carer support around the home.

Whole System Demonstrator – A whole lot better
Local user Clare Mehmet, has had insulin controlled Diabetes for the past 14 years, and was recommended for the TeleHealth trial by her GP. For the past five months Clare has been trialling the system in her home and is able to take her own daily vital signs readings – blood pressure, blood sugar levels, weight and pulse. The results are sent through a set top box connected to her television and monitored remotely by a nursing team.
